Your customers have changed how they shop. Before buying a face serum, earbuds, or a gift, millions now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or another AI app one simple question: "What should I buy?"

The AI answers with 4–5 brand names. If your brand is in that answer, you get the customer. If it isn't, your competitor does — and you never even know the sale happened.

So the most important question for any brand owner in 2026 is simple: when a customer asks AI about your category, does your name come up?

Here is how to find out.

The manual way (free, 15 minutes)

Open ChatGPT and ask the way your customer would ask. Not "tell me about my brand" — real shopper questions:

  • "best vitamin C serum under ₹700 for oily skin"
  • "same day flower delivery in Dubai under AED 200"
  • "سماعات بلوتوث عزل ضوضاء بسعر معقول" (if your customers ask in Arabic, test in Arabic)

Then look at three things:

  1. Is your brand in the answer? At what position — first or fifth?
  2. Where does the AI send the buyer? Your website, or Amazon and Flipkart? If it names a marketplace, you pay commission on a sale the AI won for you.
  3. Repeat on Gemini. AI apps disagree with each other more than you'd expect. A brand can be #1 on ChatGPT and completely missing on Gemini.

Do this for 4–5 different questions, and write down what you see.

The problems with the manual way

Three things make manual checking unreliable:

Your account biases the answer. ChatGPT remembers your history. If you've searched your own brand before, it may mention you more than it would for a stranger. Your customer's ChatGPT doesn't know your brand exists.

One question isn't enough. Shoppers ask in many ways — by budget, by problem ("my hair keeps falling"), by occasion ("Diwali gift under ₹1,500"), in Hinglish, in Arabic. Your brand might win one phrasing and lose the other five.

You can't see the "why." The AI reads specific websites before answering — review sites, comparison pages, marketplaces. Which sites it trusts decides who gets recommended. Manually, you can't see this list.

The automatic way (free, 2 minutes)

We built StockedBy to do this properly. Enter your website, pick your category, and it asks ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude the real questions shoppers in your market ask — in English, Hinglish and Arabic — then shows you:

  • Whether AI recommends you, and at what position
  • Who it recommends instead — your real competition in AI answers
  • Where AI sends buyers to pay — your website, or a marketplace charging you commission
  • Which websites the AI trusted before answering — your to-do list for getting recommended

It's free, takes 2 minutes, and works for brands in India, UAE and Saudi Arabia — with local questions, local budgets, and local rivals like Flipkart, Noon and Amazon.sa.

What to do if AI doesn't recommend you

Don't panic — most brands aren't recommended yet, because most brands have done nothing about it. That's the opportunity. Three starting points:

  1. Get reviewed on the sites AI trusts. Your report shows which sites fed the AI's answer. Getting your product reviewed there matters more than your own homepage.
  2. Make your website readable to AI. If AI apps can't read your product names, prices and stock, they can't recommend or sell them. (Check if AI can read your site →)
  3. Check monthly. AI answers change constantly. Being missing today doesn't mean missing forever — and being #1 today doesn't mean #1 next month.

The brands that win the next five years of e-commerce are being decided in AI answers right now. Find out where you stand.
